In this age of digital learning, student-centered instructional design and delivery practices are an effective way to move forward. This presentation will introduce the audience to HyperDocs as a tool for packaging lessons & units digitally.

The pedagogy of the Intellectual Operations in Social Studies

This workshop will be offered to social studies elementary cycles 2 and 3 teachers as well as cycle one social studies secondary teachers. The pedagogy of the Intellectual Operations in relation to graphic organizers will be presented and discussed. Participants will then learn how to use Google Draw to create their own graphic organizers, including the creation of "physical" Intellectual Operation kits.

Using Video Integration and iPads to engage student learning (AM)

Getting students excited and motivated to learn these days, is becoming a great challenge in our classrooms. When I walk into a classroom with a class set of iPads, students express such excitement. Why not use that excitement and have students demonstrate their learning? During this workshop; - I will show you real life examples of different video integration tools you can incorporate in your lessons. - You will see how easy it is to create a Green Screen video with an iPad. - The power of Google Drive for saving video projects. - Audio tools I use to get better sound quality. Projects can be as simple or as complex as you like. I will show you examples from kindergarten, up to elementary grade 6 level. These iPad apps can also be integrated at the high school level. Participants should attend this interactive, hands-on workshop with an iPad. These are some of the apps I will use, so feel free to download them prior to attending; iMovie, Green Screen by Do INK ($3.99), TouchCast, ChatterPix by Duck Duck Moose Google Drive, and Explain Everything.

Documents in Social Science:  Locate, Analyze, Question and Share

From online texts, images and SMARTBoard files for Elementary, to targeted document collections for the new Secondary History programs, LEARN and its RECIT partners have created thousands of easily accessible document collections.  But what to do with all of these available primary and secondary sources?  This workshop helps answer that question, while also demonstrating various online mapping and image analysis tools (Cartograf, Google Draw, etc) that you can use to create engaging lessons and appropriate evaluation tools.
