Engaging our Students' Learning via EDpuzzle

3 parts to the EDpuzzle workshop:
1) Educators will be introduced to the EDpuzzle free app and view a couple
examples of EDpuzzle video lessons created by myself. They will learn about
the purpose of using this app in order to enhance their students' learning.
2) Educators will create their own teacher accounts. They will be directed step by
step on how to curate video lessons using an already existing Youtube or Khan
Academy video. Educators will learn how to crop the video in order to use the
part needed, record one's voice on top of the video, add an introduction, and
embed questions in order to check students' understanding.
3) Educators will learn how to assign and share the EDpuzzle lesson with their
students. They will also learn how to check students' understanding based on
the immediate feedback they receive using this app.

iPads in the Elementary Classroom

Elementary teachers will explore a variety of apps that they can integrate in their daily classroom routines. They will discover apps that can be used in all subjects, for all students. Teachers will participate in hands-on activities and will get the opportunity to try out specific activities that they will be able to do with their students the very next day! Teachers will be provided with concrete examples of lessons that can be used on iOS devices. They will leave the workshop with a list of apps that they can use with their students for reading, writing, and math. They will also be shown several apps that can be useful for classroom management, test prep, and digital portfolios.

*Apps that will be demonstrated include: Pic Collage, Popplet, Epic, Book Creator, Chwazi, Too Noisy, Seesaw, Kahoot & Plickers.

Using 21st Century Technology to Explore the Past

In this interactive presentation, we will look at how Adaku Arhin, Grade 5 teacher at Hillcrest Academy in Laval, uses a combination of old and new technology to bring the story of the Underground Railroad to life.

Using books, iPad apps and videoconferencing, Adaku immerses her students in the subject, always mindful of her goal of having her students develop a love affair with books.

Coding & Robotics in the Elementary Classroom

Get your students excited about coding with engaging activities that they will love. Teach them the language of coding and watch them learn and grow! In this workshop, teachers will learn how to easily start a coding club in their school. No coding background is necessary and anyone can do it! Teachers will learn different ways to support their students’ discovery of coding and robotics. They will explore coding as an effective way to teach students cooperative play, team work, problem solving, and persistence. Teachers will be provided with a list of websites, apps, and robots that can be used for a coding club.
